Rain delays play on first day of Test cricket at Headingley

By Daniel Lynch

The start of the second Test match between England and New Zealand has been suspended at Headingley due to rain.

England lead the series after a 170 run victory at Lord’s on Sunday and were due to begin play at 11am.

The umpires will only inspect the pitch after the rain has stopped and a further 90 minutes will be required before play can start.

The wicket and surrounding square are under cover and an early lunch is to be taken at 12.30pm.

The weather is not forecast to improve with more rain and high winds expected for the afternoon.
