Saved? The Owl at Rodley
by Emma Wilkinson
A Rodley pub that the community have fought to save could be given a lifeline after a meeting was called yesterday by Pudsey MP Stuart Andrew, to discuss its future.
The meeting invited the Howard family and Enterprise Inns to try and address the prospect of Gina Howard continuing as landlord after June 2, the date which she had initially intended to leave the pub.
Ms Howard announced she would be walking away from The Owl two weeks ago, as she claimed she could no longer afford the mounting costs imposed by the building owners, Enterprise Inns.
But after the meeting last night, Enterprise Inns said: “The meeting was constructive and a dialogue is continuing. Every effort is being made to ensure the pub remains open after June 2 with the Howard family.”
Customers and community groups who frequent the pub have been running a campaign to save the The Owl.
Landlord, Ms Howard said: “I am just so appreciative to all my customers who have got behind this campaign because their continued support has played a big part in bringing this meeting about.
“I also want to express how grateful I am to Stuart Andrew for the way he fought our corner and thanks to him, The Owl might just have a chance. I am positive, but I think it will be a slow process”, she added.
