Horsforth spyware company in £7m buy-out deal

By Andreas Mullings

A Horsforth spyware and intelligence company is to be bought by a Northern Ireland business looking to increase its international sales in covert intelligence research and development.

Datong,  on Low Hall Road, looks set to be bought by Lisburn-based Seven for just under £7m.

Seven is the parent company of UK-based computing company Seven Technologies.

Richard Moon, chairman of Seven, said: “We are delighted that Datong will be joining Seven and we look forward to working with Mark Cook and his team to expand the range of offerings to our growing customer base. It is our intention to integrate the business into the Seven Group over the coming months.”

The workforce of around 80 at the Horsforth headquarters should not be affected by the sale as it is set out. The sale does rely on at least 90 per cent of the shareholders accepting.

The company, founded 35 years ago, has expanded into several countries including the United States and Malaysia.
