Heart surgery balloon release in Leeds

BALLOONSTwo thousand one hundred and one red balloons were released today at Leeds General Infirmary to mark all the heart procedures carried out in the last three years.

Each balloon represented an interventional or surgical procedure by the unit for both adults and children.

The gathering was attended by nurses, patients, and surgeons as well as supporters.

The celebrations were held outside the hospital on the same day the Independent Reconfiguration Panel was set to submit its advice to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt on the future of children’s heart surgery.
