Police hunt second suspect in post office hold up

A 39 year old man appeared at Bradford Magistrates Court today charged with armed robbery at a Post Office in Burley-in-Wharfedale – and police are still searching for a second suspect.

The robbery happened on Monday, on Station Road at about 5.05 pm.

Two men armed with a sledgehammer and a lump hammer, wearing balaclavas entered the post office and stole money from behind the counter. The money was later recovered.

The postmaster and a female customer were in the post office at the time, and members of the public outside flagged down a passing police vehicle, when the alarm was raised.

One suspect drove off towards Guiseley in a white Kia Sportage, with the number plate MX62 GUE.  And is described as white, stocky built, and around 30 years old, wearing sunglasses.

Det Insp Neil Benstead said: “This was clearly a very frightening incident for the postmaster, members of the public and the police.”

David Connor, 39, appeared before the courts this morning.
